11/21/2019 Installing Kalyway 10.5.2 Programs
Im currently downloading the.dmg combo update file, from Apple's website. Im wondering if im going to have trouble installing it like normal, or if theres a special OSx86 way to do this? Ive been searching around, cant seem to find an answer. I think it will depend on your hardware. Kaly issued an update to 10.5.3 which you should be able to find through searching the forum, and 10.5.4 could be updated directly from Apple (use the Delta, NOT the Combo). The tricky update after that is 10.5.5 - there have been a wide range of results from downloading the Apple Delta, from no problems at all to bricked systems. (I successfully updated to 10.5.5 using Mysticus C's method, but it doesn't support IDE mode, so I removed it.) I think 10.5.6 Delta is pretty safe, but again, it may depend on your hardware.
I hope this helps. I had no trouble updating from kalyway 10.5.1 to 10.5.6 using the combo update and the netkas method, worked great for me doing the following steps: back up your extensions/data Install pc-efi 9 very reliable boot loader from open tools folder install bootloader.pkg. Ignore the dsdt stuff. Open directory utility enable root user from menu. Set password. Open terminal type sudo su.
Enter password 3. In terminal typed without quotes. 'while sleep 1; do rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext; done' 4.mount 10.5.6 combo, install while monitoring for appleintelcpupowermanagement.kext in extensions folder. Should appear and get deleted super fast. Do not restart! Right click /System/InstallAtStartup folder.
At bottom click lock and enter password. Change permissions for everyone to read/write.
Repeat step for folder /System/InstallAtStartup/scripts and for file /System/InstallAtStartup/scripts/1 6. Open 1 file in text edit. Find there Dont Steal Mac OS X.kext and replace with this dsmos.kext. If u have nvidia card move to trash all ati. and appleintelgma. kexts to trash. Install voodoo kernel 9.5 with their setup package.
Only if u know you cannot use vanilla kernels on your hardware. This worked great for me and i have tested it several times.
Worked great for me as well. This is the only update method that has worked for me. The only thing that bugs me is now i have to sleep it as soon as it boots up of all i get is a blank blue screen. System specs: Dell xps 410 2.13 GHz core 2 duo with cpus=1 flag 2Gbytes Ram 100 GB Maxtor Sata hd NVidia 8600 GTS Graphics. Update: Doh!! I found out that you can fix this blue screen problem by swapping your video cable over to the other port (if you have one) Now i dont have to sleep every time i install a new game or change resolutions.
I tried updating from 10.5.3 to 10.5.6 using these instructions. Unfortunately the System now is in an endless reboot loop. Using -v it shows lots of 'Loading HFS+ file: blabla.kext from 4230270' messages and then it suddendly reboots so fast I cannot even see the last message.
I tried using the -v -x and update -x commands with no other result:-( Edit: OK by using the Pause key extensively I was able to stop the system at the last message which is just 'Starting Darwin/X86' I tried using the vanilla kernel and the system is an Abit Conroe 1333/DVI-H with Pentium Dual Core E2180. Edit2: Ok, I got it to boot by using my old iBook to install the Voodoo kernel to the HD. Now I just have to reenable QE (with Intel GMA 950) and Sound. The problem is that 10.5.5 update from Kaly 10.5.2. I have Kalyway 10.5.2. Kalyway Combo Update 10.5.3 (Apple Combo Update 10.5.3 + Kalyway patch) Apple Delta (single update, I dont know why you people are calling it Delta???) 10.5.4 and when I try 10.5.5 Apple Delta to install it gives me a gray screen and says I need to restart, the install freezes at.X11.app/Contents/Resources/zhTW.lproj/main.lib.X11.app/Contents/Resources/zhCN.lproj/main.libIts somewhere on 39% Can someone give tips where to find 'HOW TO' for 10.5.5?
I really suck at searching this board since people commonly dont use tags. Hi I followed every step in updating from Kal 10.5.2 to the official Apple 10.5.6 combo and it all went fine except that it screwed up some of my hardware. Lost my soundcard which worked fine in 10.5.2 (I had no info about the driver in System profiler though to start with but it worked for output sound) My graphics card (GeForce 6600) runs the same driver as before but is very sluggish. In System profiler it reports the 'Core Image' to be running in Software mode instead of Hardware Accelerated as I had in 10.5.2 The good part (I hope ) is that I have my old system still installed and intact and bootable since I did a Carbon Copy clone of the drive before updating. Also it's now showing the wrong processor info which is no big deal of course.
Soooo, can anyone help me get this fixed please? In the Extensions folder there are some files that are highlighted in green, no idea what it means but they are the same files on both systems and one is the AppleAC97Audio.kext which of course is for sound but my card is a Realtek ALC882. Got the sound working:) but graphics still run in software mode:(. @gravol The exact same thing happened to me.
My mobo is a Asus P5W DH Deluxe, and a Geforce 7950 512Mb. The graphics card went to software, no sound, and the CPU information was showing 3.8Ghz when it's actually running @ 3.11Ghz. Hopefully someone will find a way to fix this. I tried using the extensions that I had backed up, but no luck with that. Hey I found some fixes, actually the only ones that worked out of the numerous tries I've done. Sound was fixed with the ALC882 drivers on iPC X86 Dvd (don't know what soundcard you have) - Hardware enabled graphics (I tries a bunch and this is THE one) NVinstaller at - 'About this Mac' info can be manually edited with OSX86 Tools, no explanation why it shows the wrong info though. Hope some of this helps, glad to contribute with some info.
I've gotten so many great hints and tips browsing around here (installed my first OsX86 two days ago) Currently running Kalyway 10.5.2 updated to 10.5.6 from Apple using this thread. All hardware works and it kicks my pc's a.

Install voodoo kernel 9.5 with their setup package. Only if u know you cannot use vanilla kernels on your hardware. This worked great for me and i have tested it several times. I've got the Vanilla Kernel. Must I follow this how to? Or is there an other way to intall the 10.5.6 combo-update BTW: Is there an other way to backup my leopard without useing Time Machine because I must erase my HD but there are a lot of windows backups on it. I was using Kalyway 10.5.2 First I did this: 8.
Install voodoo kernel 9.5 with their setup package. Only if u know you cannot use vanilla kernels on your hardware. Because I had the same problem as the user 'adylevy' above in this thread.
I followed all the other steps as described in this post. The 10.5.4 combo update was successfully completed.
When I rebooted, i found that my PS2 keyboard and mouse stopped working. Leopard boots successfully and it does not hang or anything but the keyboard and mouse dont work. I googled and found and then after googling more and eventually replacing ACPIPS2 I still could not solve this problem. One of the solutions i came across was to use Vanilla kernel and now i have installed fresh kalyway 10.5.2 with Vanilla kernel. I may have to now install Voodoo kernel so that I can successfully complete the 10.5.4 combo update installation.
Will that mean, that if i install the voodoo kernal now, it was no use installing the Vanilla kernel earlier and that my mouse and keyboard stilll would not work? Thanks in advance. BTW: Is there an other way to backup my leopard without useing Time Machine because I must erase my HD but there are a lot of windows backups on it. NeoFoXxX I'm using Carbon Copy Clone which works great and it's freeware. After my first succesful install w/ drivers working and everything setup I cloned that partition to a second one. It's a great way when you update kexts or upgrading since the clone partition is bootable from the bootloader with F8 and you are back to the previous install and you can reinstall/add kexts, kernels, bootloaders etc to your crashed install from there:) /O.
Best Answer: You probably aren't going to get much useful answers here because nobody really knows how to work it except the few rare people who actually are able to get it to work. Go here for a forum and ask for support on something that doesn't work or you are having problems because people probably won't help you with something as general as installing it, there are so many different steps. My suggestion?
DON'T try it unless you are really experienced, which im guessing you aren't because you need help to just 'install' it. Hp computers are hard to manage with the boot, i've had trouble installing Windows Xp, Windows 7, and kalyway(this never worked). There were so many steps until I figured out just how to install software from microsoft, how hard do you think it would be to install cracked software not meant to even work on anything other than apple computers? I'm not trying to be mean or anything, who knows? Your computer might be the lucky one and work, but from my past experience, i've tried 11+ different dvds from different versions and none of them worked no matter what I did to try installing it (reseting boot, unpluggin devices, etc.) I eventually gave up because no matter what I did, it would not boot (stupid hp machine).
Even if it did install, you would have trouble with driver compatibility (most people couldn't connect to internet), printers wouldnt work, graphic drivers would probably not install, sound wouldn't work, keyboards/mice, etc. I hope you have better luck than me if you attempt it, good luck. This is highly questionable material, but alas I am only here to answer questions not pass judgement. If you have ever used rapidshare, then you will have no problem downloading this file peice by peice from the links on this website If you dont know how to use rapidshare, just take a link like this one and paste it in your address bar. Then when the page loads after the wait click the blue download button. You will have to follow these steps until you download all the files into the same folder.
Then when everything is completely downloaded double click on the first one I linked. If you ever need to search for things like this in the future just go here I hope im officially 'Most Awesome On Yahoo Answers'!!!. Tell us some more.

Open Terminal/Finder/etc, go to System/Library/Extensions. Start installing update. Monitor System/Library/Extensions folder, once AppleIntelCPUPowermanagement.kext appears there – remove it immideatly. U can use this little script for it, run as root, before starting upgrade while sleep 1; do rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext; done once update finished, press ctrl-c in terminal window, to stop script, don’t press restart! After it, open this file in textedit – /System/InstallAtStartup/scripts/1 find there string /System/Library/Extensions/Dont Steal Mac OS X.kext and replace with this string /System/Library/Extensions/dsmos.kext or r3d3 if u use r3d3. Now u can recover ur applesmbios/applehda/etc (didn;’t u forget to make backups b4 running update?) and finaly press restart.
On first start it will do smth, without booting to gui, then it will reboot, it can take about 3-4 mins, then it shuld boot normaly, if u didn;t forget smth. Of course it’s all for intel core 2 based cpus and intel mobos. Other users can use 10.5.1 kernel/system.kext with 10.5.2 system (like amd users or pentium-d). I need some major help with this “Using 10485 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers” I have this issue on my Acer M5630, a Q6600 machine. In the 10.5.1 installation, it won’t boot unless I use cpus=1 or disable APIC Mode in the BIOS, then it will boot, and I also needed to install SS2 to get around this “Using 10485”.
Now I installed 10.5.2, I can boot up without needing to disable APIC Mode or cpus=1, but I can’t get pass this “Using 10485”. Believe me, I tried everything I can think of, I even recompiled my own AppleAPIC, IOAPIC and AppleSMBIOS kexts, (I inserted some IOLog comments hoping I will find out at which step things go wrong.) AppleAPIC was never loaded. It seems to me there is an issue with the I/O APIC and the local APIC not talking to each, or somehow the vector table is messed up. I have ran this machine on Ubuntu and Vista, Both run in 4 cores without any problem, so that rules out hardware problem. Can someone give me an idea on what to do?
“Eeeeexcellent!” Third time’s the charm for me (iATKOS v1.0i - 10.5.2) I just had to test my luck with apple’s software update (I also like to put paperclips in outlets) and then I didn’t notice I wasn’t root so that screwed up the first attempt at Netkas’ instructions. I did some much needed research on what kexts to archive (the union of all the ones suggested in the comments) and voila! My CPU shows correctly (2GHz Core Duo) but interestingly enough, it’s still showing “iATKOS” and the Turk team’s logo.

Many thanks Netkas! – LA Lenovo 3000 V100 laptop, 2GHz Intel Core Duo, 3GB RAM, Intel 945GM. Hey netkas, followed your guide to the letter, but after clicking restart, my system starts to boot, and then never goes into the second restart you mentioned. I waited like 10 minutes, and as far as I could tell nothing was happening (but the load circle continued to spin).
I got a small circle with a cross through it over the top of the apple symbol on the startup screen, could this be affecting things? I foolishly set quietboot yes on my boot.plist so I can’t enter single user mode, but I have an xp install with mac drive.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Update: Used windows partition to modify boot.plist settings. Had to revert to 10.5.2 kexts for ahci support (because it was somehow missing from the combo updater?!?) However, I was getting strange permissions problems (admin password wasn’t accepted etc.) so I reran the updater. Now I’m experiencing general system instability (itunes randomly quits, system seems much slower, etc.) anyone know if this is common among 10.5.3 adopters or did the 2x installation of the update perhaps mess me up?
The kexts I replaced where IOAHCIFamily, AppleAHCIPort, itunesphone something or other eth, and IOSerialFamily. Does anyone know of a way to modify the actual 10.5.3 kexts for use with ICH9R chipset AHCI controllers? Sorry Guy’s to bother U but this is seriously driving me nuts! After my initial clean install of Kalyway 10.5.1, I decided to try the “safe root” & upgrade to 10.5.2 first, before attempting 10.5.3.
Despite FOUR attempts & FOUR complete rebuilds, i’m still getting the same result. At first, I log in as root & Everything looks OK, – I start the script; Then start the PKG file. When that runs sucessfully, I check if AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext has gone; If it has I stop the script, them mod the “1” file with the appropriate alteration, & finally I check to see if dsmos.kext alive & kicking in the appropriate place.
For safety,I trash the “Dont Steal Mac OS X.kext” After all that checks out OK, finally I reboot & cross my fingers! The thing re-boots just fine – goes into the “Black screen” for a few secs, reboots again – them gets stuck at the Apple splash screen (the white one with the apple logo & the spikey thingy going round at the bottom!). There seems to be little or no disk activity at this point, but the spikey “system loading indicator” just keeps on spinning – indicating it’s not frozen. Please note, as this is a “clean” install no kexts are loaded for the GFX card (Sapphire HD 2600 pro 512K), sound or networking, before hand – i’d rather wait to see what the update fixes first before I start messing BOUT WITH kexts! Also I could only get Kalyway installed if i formated my HD to MBR. Before I tried updating I managed to get both QE & GL working fine but kept suffering “blackouts” when i opened various sub-menus.
I was also getting KP’s every trime I shutdown – hence the update. My Hardware is as follows: Intel Core 2 duo Quad 6600 Proc 2 Gig of Crucial DDR3 Ram Asus P5K3 Delux /Wifi Mobord Sappire ATI Radeon HD2600 Pro PCI-E 512K Gfx Any help would be VERY gratefuly recieved! Thx in advance Malc.
There are many Articles around the web that describe on a normal PC. But there is no full guide who describes how to update 10.5.1 to 10.5.4. So here is it. Upgrade 10.5.1 to 10.5.2. Download the 10.5.2 Combo Update (search Google) 343MB. Go to /System/Library/Extensions/. Start Update.
When AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext apperars, move it to trash immediatly. The install finishes, but do NOT click the restartbutton! I ran into a problem during the 10.5.2 - 10.5.3 combo update. Not quite sure what was responsible for it, but I was unable change the permissions to modify the ‘/System/InstallAtStartup/scripts/1’ file. Everytime I tried to open a Get Info screen, Finder would crash. I tried sudo and su in the terminal but I don’t think I had root access enabled.
Probably would’ve been a better idea to enable root access then modify the file in the terminal, but I tried to boot into safe mode to modify the file and I had loads of fun What I ended up doing was booting into the install DVD, then opening up Terminal under the Utilities menu and editing the file in there. I used: “/Volumes/Leopard/usr/bin/vi /Volumes/Leopard/System/InstallAtStartup/scripts/1” A bit involved but I’m on 10.5.3 now! Hope this helps someone! @p: yes, i have the usb mouse and keyboard.
I used them on my laptop and they worked fine:D (it’s wierd leopard 10.5.2 doesn’t recognize my laptop’s mouse pad and keyboard). I did a research and read that I should replace the AppleACPIPlatform.kext (dont remember exactly how to spell it:D ) so I did and it generated an error about improperly install during my second upgrade to 10.5.3 and this fucked the whole thing. I have to reinstall 10.5.1 again. And this time, I used the kalyway 10.5.2 combo update.
After the installation and boot, everything worked fine including my mouse pad and keyboard hooorayyyy.:D OK, but I need to upgrade to 10.5.3 so that I could install the current iPhone SDK. But this time, kalyway 10.5.3 combo update didn’t do it for me.
Now I have to reinstall the whole thing again (like usual:D ) I traced the issue during boot. It said: “Failed to load extension com.apple.driver.AppleAHCIPort” “Couldn’t alloc class AppleICH8AHCI” “Couldn’t alloc class AppleAHCI” Anyone know what’s this mean? Jasonmac and others, you need to learn how to set up your system with a test partition so you don’t have to do a full reinstall of your os. You’ll find a wealth of information on insanelymac including how to properly fix your laptop keyboard and trackpad.
BTW, I’m really curious why you need to install the iPhone SDK, you don’t seem to be a developer. You “traced the issue during boot”, you mean you booted in verbose mode so you could see where it halted? As for does this still work or that? Depends and if you learn enough it’s all fixable except totally unsupported hardware. USB (working but the replug issue remains for many on certain hardware) PS2 can all work, you just need the right kext. The fun is figuring it all out.
If you’re looking for an always up to date OS X install and ready for production then either be prepared to be patient and stay on top of the osx86 hacking community or by a Mac. For starters you may find this thread on im to be useful, there are many others. To Arcy: ty for the link, it helps me much. Sorry for the confuse. English is not my native language and I’m completely new to this “mac on pc” stuffs.
In fact, I just started on this a week ago. But I don’t agree with you on the part “why you need to install the iPhone SDK, you don’t seem to be a developer”. You don’t need to be a real developer in order to install and use iPhone SDK.
I don’t think I am a real developer but I do like programming and have programmed for several years and I find the fun on using my own developed apps on my own iPhone. They don’t have to be a sophisticated apps, just a simple texteditor or so would be fine to me (even though there’s already one in iPhone:D. Just try to get some basic knowledges of programming in a new OS environment.:D. Hi, I build my system using an ASUS P5K-VM mobo, a 150G WD Raptor, 4Gig RAM and an XFX GeForce 8600 GTS. The system is dedicate to Mac OS X. I went thru the Kalyway 10.5.2 installer. Then I tied to download and install 10.5.4 from apple, but the install crashed and my system wouldn’t boot.
So I went thru the 10.5.2 installer again and then downloaded Kalyway 10.5.3 and installed it OK. I know have a stable 10.5.3, with some glitches: 1) I can’t wake up my system if it goes to sleep (so I disabled the sleep mode). Also after I shutdown, the system stays powered up most times forcing me to push and hold the power switch. 2) Occasionally after the system comes up, the USB Keyboard and mouse aren’t working (I use PS/2 devices merged into a single USB port).
Kalyway 10.5.2 Iso
If I unplug and plug it (same port or not, same thing), then the keyboard works again and I can login. 3) Yesterday OS X crashed with a gray screen during boot, but booted fine after powering the system up again. If I didn’t have 1) & 2) already, I wouldn’t be suspicious. I appreciate any ideas. The way I built this system allows me to pull out the HD and plug another in (without opening the box) for testing purposes. Hey, I have a problem going from the 10.5.2 – 10.5.3 as well.
I tried doing the “-x” and the “update -v” methods but with the “-x” I get the Gray screen just loading on an on. And with the “update -v” nothing happens at all. When following the steps to install the 10.5.3 update I did not find the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext file nor did i find the Don’t Steal Mac OS`X.kext file. So I thought maybe it would work. So i rebooted, and got the Gray screen of constant loading. Appreciate any help, Thank You.
Got the same problem as Franck above. I had Kalyway 10.5.1 (dual-boot with Windows XP), then used your procedure to upgrade to 10.5.2.
Now every startup of OS X quickly falls back into a reboot. With -x -v I see a lot of text fly by, but once the reboot starts it is off the screen — too soon for me to read it. I went into your link to Netkas’s blog, and he mentions saving a couple of things before the start of the whole procedure. No mention of that here, so I didn’t do it.
Has that something to do with this? Is there a way to recover? Well i tried to do the first step, and i never saw the appleintelcpu. So the update was still in progress when this text box appeared: “you need to restart your computer. Hold.” so i did and i also tried the -x -v and all that stuff but nothing happens, now the dvd drive is not coming to action with the kalyway instal. So i cant reinstall it or do anything!!!
I tried to make the boot from the dvd drive but doesnt work either so can you help me please! Is there anything i can do about it? Yes, there’s no solution unless you download new mac osx. Iatkos 10.5.4 (but it is too slow). Maybe direct download will help (but need pay some money to get it) I also have a same problem with my Kalyway. I failed to update to 10.5.3 with a kernel panic resulted yesterday.
And my conclusion is I want to try to get iatkos 10.5.4. Tomorrow I am going vacation. Maybe next week I will download iatkos 10.5.4. Don’t waste your time to combo update or upgrade because this hackintosh will get dizzy and flu. Get a new one, I recommend iatkos 10.5.4. I have a working VMWare Workstation 6.0.4 image of Mac OSX 10.5.2.
It is the image FreeBSD – 64 image that PCWIZ put together. I need to update it to 10.5.4 at least so I can do iPhone dev. That is my whole purpose. I have tried your method and many others and can’t seem to get any of them to work. They either continually reboot or stay in the grey screen and spin forever.
The one thing I am not sure of is what is the exact command line or thing you do when someone writes “Restart and boot with -v”? Even better would be if anyone could please just make a working VMWare 6.0.4 image with 10.5.4 on it and send me a link????
I tried this update from 10.5.2 to 10.5.3, and after it reboots it does the gray screen with the appl and then it goes to a blue screen and does nothing. I have followed the instructions to the letter. I have tried update -v, -x, and everything that everyone else with problems so far in this post has tried. I have tried the solutions offered thus far, and have not had any success so far.

I have a gateway CX2724 tablet pc (equivalent to the gateway CX210X tablet PC), and i am trying to run osx86 from my external 320GB Western Digital HDD. 10.5.2 works well, but i want to do some iPhone app development, so i need at least 10.5.3. Someone help me please. I was able to make a new 10.5.1 installation on the empty space in my second partition. Mirgrating Applications and setting froze at the end but seemed to work.
I didn’t have enough space to migrate user files (songs etc.) but I can still access everything on the other drive from my new os partition. It would have been easier if I had made a timemachine backup which really should be the first step of this guide. Now I need to figure out how to fix my old os or set up the second partition as the default boot.
Hmmm I waited for AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext to show up at the bottom of the extensions but I got a grey screen that fell down beforehand that locked everything up and said I must reboot. Now I have the kernel panic. Must I start over from scratch? How do I avoid this next time?? I’m not an avid mac user so maybe the keyt files don’t show up at the bottom of the directory as they would in windows?? All I really wanted 10.5.4 for was the Atheros / IBM wireless card support, and maybe improved Radeon video support since Final Cut crashes alot and dvd player doesn’t work at all.
@P – I have the same problem as Steve. I get a black screen after the upgrade from 10.5.2 to 10.5.3. Option -x did not do anything,I got to the same black screen and I see the HD working. After 5 min it stop working. I rebooted with option -v and I get through all the messages, then to a light blue screen and then to the black screen again. I have tried the upgrade many times using the instructions on this blog. I also tried the Kalyway method and got to the same place a Black Screen.
I’m using a Lenovo T61. I installed Mac OS X Leopard 10.2. Then i downloaded Mac Os x 10.3 combo update and deleted the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext file and after the update i went to installstartup folder but i could not access the folder so i went to get info but the screen disappeared.so i copied the folder and pasted it in the desktop and edited the script and replaced it with the original one. After restarting, i booted to leopard and then it restarted automatically without any message. What should i do? Compaq Presario SR5170CF Intel Pentium D 3.00Ghz Nvidia GeForce 8400 512mb kernel: kernelsleep.
